In 2005, after completing an intensive actor training program at the University of Evansville, I discovered my passion for music and songwriting. While performing on stage had always thrilled me, my creative focus shifted toward crafting songs and connecting with audiences through music.
My journey began in New York City, where I started as a singer/songwriter before forming the psychedelic rock band CHAPPO in 2009 with my friend Chris Olson. What began as a duo quickly grew into a quartet with Zac Colwell and David Feddock. Our big break came when “Come Home,” a song from our self-released EP recorded in our East Village living room, unexpectedly landed in an Apple iPod commercial. Pitchfork described it as “an excellently overstuffed garage-psych sound,” and the track has since garnered over 25 million streams across platforms.
CHAPPO went on to tour extensively across the US, UK, and Canada, headlining shows and opening for acts like The Flaming Lips, Mac DeMarco, of Montreal, Lucius, and Imagine Dragons. We also performed at major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Osheaga, Summerfest, SXSW, CMJ, and Dot to Dot (UK). Our wild, theatrical live shows became a signature, embodying the heart and soul of who we were as a band.
To date, CHAPPO has released three full-length albums and several EPs. Our debut album, Moonwater (Majordomo Records), drew comparisons to the Pixies with “just enough psych-swirls to stay groovy,” according to Spin. In 2015, we pushed boundaries with Future Former Self (Votiv Music), a genre-bending concept album exploring a black-hole-bound space traveler named Rene. Most recently, we embraced an all-analog recording process for Do It, produced by John Vanderslice and David Feddock at Tiny Telephone Studio in San Francisco.
Our music has been featured in popular TV shows like The Big Bang Theory, HBO’s Crashing and Hung, as well as several independent films.
